The Impact of the SilverTeks Program
Each year, our SilverTeks program impacts the lives of dozens of senior citizens in the Denver metro area, and beyond, by providing free, online computer training through Zoom with the help of our student tutors. It’s a win-win program, as we are able to pay students for their professional time and training, while helping seniors move into this digital age. But the benefits extend beyond this, with seniors connecting with each other and the younger generations. Claudia, who has participated in the program for several years, especially loved the interactions she shared with student tutors and other seniors:
“It was a wonderful program, a wonderful experience…the family that is established, the camaraderie that is established…is absolutely wonderful.” — Claudia, SilverTeks Senior
The community that is built provides a unique opportunity as seniors are able to work together nearly all year long. In the Spring and Fall, once a month, they are able to participate in our Silver Saturdays program. Then, during the summer seniors can continue their training every weekday during our 4-week long, Summer Silverteks program.
We strive to develop and use materials that provide “real-life” application for many of the features in Microsoft 365, such as creating a budget or tracking spending in Excel, designing event flyers in Word, or creating a Thanksgiving holiday video card in Powerpoint.
The Silverteks programs bring these and other valuable computer skills to seniors in an easy, user-friendly manner, allowing them to take advantage of the technology of our day.
We are especially grateful to all who have been a part of Silverteks, and all who have given contributions to make these programs possible.
Support for our Silverteks program allows us to continue reaching more senior citizens with this incredible training and community, while providing paid work opportunities for young African American and minority youth who excel in our programs.
Consider teaming up with us to help continue this work by making a donation, or becoming a strategic sponsor. All gifts are tax-deductible and enable us to continue provide this training free of charge.
